Just loved your story
But I only have one question. What is paraffin? And I'm putting up the 3rd chapter today. (UFOs)

Re:
Lion it is sad in a way I suppose these retirement villages are trying to recreate that environment at a price.

Re:
Doc the cold here is a killing damp more folk die from cold than in Russia so statistics inform us. People do not wrap up enough and become chilled, this raises the blood pressure and poof.

Wow! In Florida, the preparations for the cold were not like that! I get a chill thinking of such cold!!! Adapt, adjust and overcome certainly worked! Preparing for hurricanes and the sun rays were highlights here!

Well it was under duress I expect Naut, kids would not stand for that now, I think it was to stop them catching illness in winter, a kind of tale before pills were available in quantity.

The poop story was hilarious and I'm glad we never had to get swabbed with grease and all. Really loved the last sentence,"We did not expect much, and were pleased with what we received." how true that is and I think we grew up never expecting much.

I couldn't help it but it cracked me up with Archie's plan! The bag and the inscription would have been hilarious! The idea of the grease was very good, I wish my family would have done it the winter my fingers suffered frostbite! sam

In this part of the world (well, way, way north of this part of the world) it is (or was) an Inuit (Eskimo to you) habit to smear themselves with seal grease against the cold, and they may still do it, for all I know. I never realized it's a British habit as well...

Archie's idea of payback reminds me so much of
the pranks my boys used to play on friends and frenemies. They're probably not the only ones to set a paper bag of poo afire on someone's porch, ring the doorbell and run.
