Wow! The closest I came to that sort of thing was watching Mom catch a chicken, cut off its head, dip it in scalding water to loosen its feathers and then pluck it. I hated the smell of the scalded chicken feathers. She always did that outside to keep from stinking up the kitchen. After it was plucked, I would watch her clean it out, all the time declaring that I would never do such a thing. As far as I was concerned hams, pork chops, beef roasts and hamburger all came from Milgram's.

Wow you did have it done up well. We didn't raise sheep. We did have beef. Deer were in other counties but not ours. I just made a new venison marinade that is awesome. Thanks for reading.

We did it much the same way, I love cracklings. We also butchered a sheep in the spring, and of course on the ranch we always had home raised beef. In the winter we lived on deer meat and bottled fish, trout we caught through the summer.

I could smell the sausages, too! How wonderful that your mother wanted to be certain you were prepared! Canning is a chore but the benefits far out weigh the work for me! I loved knowing what I was feeding my kids when they were growing up! sam

back in 1964 we took a road trip to mexico city to visit relatives.....my grandma had bought a hog and fattened it up and then butchered it right before we arrived....we had so much pork.....even with so many relatives.....
