Re:
Yes Jay the blood needs to drain and I suppose if they did not have a disease as long as the neck was broken the blood drained into the cavity. I had to kill six ducks once, I must have been mad but it was to put them out of their misery. I had a bad arm for weeks as I tried to dispatch them quickly, Don't Forget the hens will need ther same service unless you intend to let them die of old age.

Re:
SAm no digging on the garden this weather. If ever I have chicken I try to get free range, but I know it is so expensive turkey is fine though, I let Arthur buy it or I would never bother. My winter clothes usually sit in the wardrobe for ever, but goodness it is time to open that door, must be old age.

Well I do disguise them a bit Amanda, but they are real or have been real.

Re: The silly goose wouldn't go in his hoose
Yes very amusing Pat,I suppose they sit on icy water, it does not seem to affect them much, I think I shall have to take some hot water to unfreeze the drinking bowl in the house this morning.

Adnohr hang around I'll get you on a diet. How could I touch 2902's cuisine after burying
all those bags of shrimps. Can't wait for the goose down pillow.

On the ranch, where we had chickens of course, we would never think of eating a chicken that died any other way than on the chopping block. I remember we had two coops, one for the laying hens and one for pullets. It was one of my morning chores to gather the eggs...I learned to dislike chickens in those days, but know we are thinking of having some of our own come spring.

I don't remember all the precautions with chickens as there are today! I wonder if it is about the mass production of them! And, those who borrow and don't repay will have their reputation precede them whether they like it or not! The best way to preserve it is to repay! Stay warm and how ironic that you found the pants and then got the call! I can only imagine the grief you might have taken had you not had them on! STAY WARM! I have read where it is taking too many lives! sam

It was a lovely tale
Although I don't quite know all the characters you write about, I see them in your words, but just a little bit blurred.

The silly goose wouldn't go in his hoose
but sat flat on the ice and snow
so Chiff and Chaff with a hearty laugh
put 'im in the hoose, that silly goose.
Now let the winter winds blow.

C_C_T...I don't think we've had that cold a day here so far this winter...
The groundhog says 6 more weeks of winter, but we really haven't had more than one solid week of it all season...I can remember those radiators in a house I grew up in - they would hiss and clank at all hours and make a little boy like me think his house was haunted..

I read 2902's post before your post here, CC. His made me hungry, but you just took care of that problem.
Happy you are still taking care of the old goose, seeing that it doesn't suffer in the cold weather.
