It's so important for one to keep their promises. I feel bad for those who are on the receiving end of an unfulfilled promise.

Re:

Adnohr  Why do so many women intelligent women pick such husbands. Are they so unsure of themselves when they are young or is it a flaw in their genetical make up. The sad thing is everyone is ordinary when they are not loved. Arthur has a heart problem, he has not got one.  The one he has is apt to go frantic at times trib trib something like that.

Hmmm - I've seen promise after promise made by dead-beat dad, and watched children wait -  hoping that, this time, it would happen... I guess the positive side would be that it prepares them for real life, where well-meaning promises are so seldom kept.

Fat bacon?? Do you stand to inherit Arthur's goods or somethin'????

Yes famous last words Rumour I have notice the loss of memory when small debts are involved. This man took the biscuit.

Re: I'd have been so tempted to mix up an itch powder in

Pat   Well I suppose 25 years later the amount did not seem so bad, but he had a nerve, perhaps he did not think the daughter remembered as she was only a girl at the time.

As if one would forget, he could at least have thanked the old Mother and have given her a gift.

Re: It has forever been the same.....how easy a promise is forgotten and

Long time ago Kabu, but it is to show how childhood experiences may alter a chid's perception on life. Yes professor quite so. It is a long way to Tipperary. Come on you are suppose to dance around the table with Wiley. Sadly it seems promises are made to be broken, take care,

It has forever been the same.....how easy a promise is forgotten and

of course the next generation child is left to pay for the Grandfather's greed.

How awful too for a little boy to be let down so badly over the promise to go fishing.

I'd have been so tempted to mix up an itch powder in

a jar of Vaseline petroleum jelly, and make him pay in advance. But that would be so mean...

I agree with Rumor, especially when money is involved...especially when it is family and money.  Anyway, we need to learn to accept our responsibilities, and do what we say.  Especially, when it comes to promises spoken from the heart, those are the one's we really don't want to break

C_C_T..its interesting how people forget about promises

when money is involved...and here the man was back for seconds, as it were, and no attempt to pay up on the much earlier promise...(all he can say is "I forgot"...)
