It seems like a good investment for both! I wish my son was there instead of Afghanistan! He only had 8 weeks left and I so want it to be over! sam

You are so knowlegeable and informative. I am glad some will be based with allies rather than terrorists, not exactly a picnic though.

Very interesting, Dear Kabu!
Austraila has long fascinated me and it is great reading all of your "insider" offerings..:)
As a dove and fiscal conservative (really!) I must admit to not being overjoyed about yet another permanent basing of our troops anywhere. We have a military empire that seems to keep spreading and the results are telling and disheartening. I know some of my more hawkish friends or Blogit members would point out that we need this empire because of terrorism but fact is all of the U.S. bases in the world could not, did not prevent 9-11, nor did all the fancy weapon systems, troops, etc. I just wish we had Diplomacy Centers instead of armed to the teeth bases.
Sorry for going on; I did enjoy the post!

Kabu
This is so charming to see you in a very happy frame of mind, the US making their base in Australia is sure a good occasion for the nation to celebrate.

That was a very interesting post. I love all those you post about Australia, it is so fascinating, not all so inviting but all interesting. I have missed you. I have been trying to set up face book. Most have no trouble with that but I am clunky....

Oh my - I hope you are kidding about there being no escape except to that desert. But WIley is right - it's good to have them there if China decided to rear it's head and I imagine that the girls WILL be very happy with their arrival!

Great post and having U.S. troops there in Adelaide is good especially if China is dreaming big dreams of taking over the world. The lamingons are terrific love.

Lucky lads Kabu better than fighting, well I expect there will be a bit of that, but anything is better than war. I notice that some soldier lads are having redundancy notices over here. Although it sounds like don't leave your day job.

My uncle George was in Australia during WWII.
He came back with my Aunt Goldie, they raised milking shorthorns and two sons. She was a cute redhead, full of old sayings and quips. At one time she an George took Grandma Lucy into their home, and Grandma wrote those Lucy Amanda stories on yellow notebooks while she was with them. It's because of Aunt Goldie that I was able to make copies and share them with my neighbors on Blogit. If there's any interest, I might run them again some time.
