These are fascinating stories.  Too bad the sons couldn't keep the pioneer's legacy going;  maybe circumstance didn't favor them as much; no barley craze to save them.  Still it sounds as if you had a great childhood.

Your poor old Dad he had some tough times to contend with Kabu, I guess it was the same all over with farming, but this is so interesting.

My mom was Swedish and her maiden name was Peterson, it sounds like you could of take after your great grandma

A beautiful post and yes, now I know why you're such a rock hound.LOL A gorgeous one of course. It also becomes clear why you wanted those rain barrels we went and got for ya.So am I to expect sheep out there in a paddock? We'll have to get a dog now, German shepherd of course.

My "roots" are the prairies of Canada with Grandparents and all the extended family wheat farming as well.  Your post reminded me of the myriad of struggles that generation went through just to make ends meet.
