Re:
adnohr No it would have been a horrible task it would have eaten anything up I expect it was alive with bacteria. Folk have to come inside the yard and they are mainly granny type persons and bring their own bags, I never thought of this problem when I planted the trees and only had about three or four apples on each.

Re:
Well of course Sam as soon as they become too expensive for first time buyers it defeats the object. I think a lot of the trouble is they equip the houses too grandly the one my brother bought 12 years ago was only a semi but it had three toilets a bathroom and a shower-room Central heating. Garage and inset  washing machine etc. Most folk had an orange box when they first moved into a new house. Nice to be sophisticated if one can afford  it OH! and two bicycles not two cars.

Kabu yes I always put a large plastic bag inside the pail as once someone picked up a dirty old box with a plant in, left the plant and filled the box with apples.

Hope you don't need surveillance cameras for your gate  Sad, that people have to steal from someone that is trying to give something good for free

What the heck? It amazes me what people deem to be free, common sense should have prevailed in this instance! I hear you loud and clear on the governments worry about the fall in the prices of homes going down to far by man alive, in my humble opinion they were just too high only a few years back! I had a neighbor a few years ago when the industry was booming bought his house for $102,000 and only 5 years later sold it for $202,000! For me that kind of profit is what sent everything spiraling! My townhouse could have sold for $200,000 and I paid $110,000! I chose to hold on to it and it ended up being a huge mistake! But, when I think about the only thing that would have happened was that I reinvest and be in the very same boat! The need for huge profits seems to be the underlying factor in the financial straits all nations seem to be facing these days! sam

C.C...the apple orchards out in the county are full,
although being picked as fast as the owners can pick (some allow the public right in to pick their own apples)...now that I only have half my own teeth, I'm not even sure I could much an apple....

The table was gone? Hope your gate is attached tightly!! Did anyone go through the pile of discarded letters? That could have been interesting!
