He always had a tender heart for the aged.  When he was little his old grandma lived with them, and he loved my mom's mother who was an invalid after having a stroke about ten years before she died.  Also, I think he thought it would be good education for us.  He also carted us around downtown and the skidrow district having us give coins to the beggars and the newspaper hawkers who were mostly missing arms or legs or something.  He also made sure that we became familiar with the City Union Mission and its workings.

Re:
Yes Taps and sadly in some places they have not improved much when one looks beneath the surface. The vulnerable always take second place in society. I should not think that you enjoyed your visit and I wonder why your Dad made you go at such a tender age perhaps there was a relative or friend he needed to visit ?

That sure brings back memories of my childhood.  Dad used to take me and my sister to nursing homes for afternoon visits to the old people.  We were about nine and ten or something like that and he would have us sing for them.  Nursing homes in those days were just terrible.  Usually they were just big old homes and the residents would be on little cots with so many in each room one could hardly get between them....and always they smelled horribly.

Re:

WEll Sam it may not seem like it to you but houses are cheap when one considers roads to access them and all the conveniences that are required, I bet it would be a job to build them again at this price and make a large profit. I expect they have all got their charts up crossing off the days. I do not think Christopher will  encourage his future lads to be soldiers.

It is sad really I read more boys sign up when there is a war raging than in peace time.

Well Whispers these were actual happenings I don't think it would make a very happy book although everyone was quite cheerful at the time, well more or less.

The guy filled with certainly made a quick recovery! It had to be rough at times, far different than the woes of this era! We have so many things in our way, the ads that abound drive me nuts! It was comforting in its own way when the older woman said your dad had gone to the happy hunting ground. And I thought it served the other right that one she had intended to make miserable out lived her! I tell ya, it's no good to put someone in a bad position for personal gain, just messes up the karma big time!

I talked with Christopher on Sunday, it was a very nice visit! He said he called because he hadn't heard my voice in a while. Sweet soldier of mine! I have been e-mailing him because I felt it was more important for him to talk with his girlfriend as much as he could. He is rather smitten with her and I tell you it seems to be the same on her end and it makes me smile for I believe they have a grand future ahead of them. I couldn't ask for anything more, exceptin' a grand child would be nice! But I know I will get one soon because my daughter is marrying a man who has a 5 year old son and I adore that boy to no end! Plus, I can apply for my for my mortgage in October now! I should have a house by the end of November, actually I would like to be moved by Thanksgiving! So, save those crowns and head across the pond and have a cup of tea with me! LOL! I do wish we could meet!

Have a grand day, thanks for the info on the eggs and as far as this place is concerned I want to finish the work I started on the lawn. I can't stand it when things go left undone. It's not a lot, I just want it to look as nice as it possibly! sam
