Re:
Asnohr I think the loss of confidence was the worst part to think one was a duffer for not going to the grammar school and the Mill workers children were lucky the Mill owners paid for
admission. My father offered to pay for me but I knew he could not afford it so I refused, Goodness how memories come back once one starts digging.

Like Justi, I was extremely fortunate with good teachers. I look back on those years with fondness. It's understandable how difficult it would be to learn anything in such an atmosphere as you describe!

Oh that makes me sad. I had a fortunate school upbringing. We had wonderful teachers supportive of creativity. All in all I have been blessed in public school years. Have a great week end.

Case in point, bribery never gets anyone anywhere anyway! And, I remember those colored chains at Christmas time, we must have had a bit better glue because I do not remember them coming apart! lol sam

well who could learn properly under such a situation
I had poor teaching first in a one teacher country school and then at boarding school...I failed my finals as well.
Churchill failed too...some of us were never meant for the sort of classroom we had to endure.
the black sheep says it all dear friend.
