Again, CHIFFCHAFF, you are quite the storyteller...you should put all these childhood tales into a book

Oh dear Rumor sounds like you were quite a good little boy, but I'll have to look into your ice cream diary.

Re:
Jay I wonder what would have happened if some kids were following you and had grabbed the coins. We must have thought adults were a bit naive a wonder you did not get an extra cuff or two.

Re:
Sam I suppose we had to live and learn, perhaps kids had more of a conscience in those days and even more before.

Re:
Adnohr It was made of cream or butter an old man told me how they made it with lumps of ice and salt on a outer container and I'm pretty sure he said butter on the inner and probably milk and flavoring. There would not have been the facilities to hold cream.

Re: very small sins in the greater scheme of things but as a child one
Oh dear Kabu when one thinks back and it was tragic at the time.

very small sins in the greater scheme of things but as a child one
tries so hard to please their loved adults. Grampa probably had a long memory and a twinkle in his eye...as did Dad. i love these

And wasn't ice cream a treat then? As much as the guilty conscience was a pain, LOL!

Somehow I can't help but think that you 'pea-d' on your karma so to speak with the over indulgence in the ice cream! I was hoping you would get the ice cream gone because it took me back to a time when I tried to eat something, usually an apple, after having polished a beauty off, only to grab another! I did it so I wanted you to do it and then karma put you in the pod so to speak! lol Great story! sam

We seldom got ice cream unless it was some ones birthday or we were traveling on a hot summer day and stopped for a cone, but I do remember a time much like your pea picking time. My sister had saved a bunch of dimes and I had taken a hand full and started for the store, young like you were, I heard my dad's voice calling me and when I looked back he was hot on my trail, so one by one I dropped the dimes as I walked back to him, thinking he wouldn't see. He did and he made me stoop to pick each one up all the way down the street and booted me in the behind each time, not hurting, but embarrassing. I did try to be good after that.

Hey, I would have gone for more ice cream, too...but I was never much of a tree climber (or tree repairman) and I have always disliked counting peas....
