I think you can sometimes think 'What will people think if i do this or that? But the thing is they can't make you happy or live your life. If you are happy that is what matters. You enjoy what you do and I know a lot of teachers and people in various jobs who are very unhappy in what they are doing. So you have made the right choices for you and that is something to be happy about.

I can definitely relate to this.  I suppose I am stubborn in the way that I do things, but I think that I am exactly where I'm supposed to be right now, doing what I love and am good at.  Some days I question everything, but I am happy.  I always loved restaurants, and I run a kitchen now.  My mom always wanted me to be a teacher, and my teachers always told me to get a job in banking, financial advising, statistics, or something else math-related since that was what always came so easily to me.  I love the fast pace and fulfillment of making beautiful food, though.  I love the comradery of cooking beside someone, and making a dish that a server will be happy about taking to a guest.  I love to watch it run like clockwork; the dishwasher brings the dishes to the line, the prep cook brings the prepared meats, sauces, and vegetables to the cooler. The cooks stock from the cooler, make the food.  The server takes it out, the cashier cashes the guests out.  The busser brings the dishes back.  There's nothing quite like it when it's so busy and running so smooth.  I'm sure that its the same smooth, even pace that you desire at the car wash when its busy.

Even at my age I still find myself wondering what others might think, specially neighbors and  fellow church members.

It's nice to have someone who makes an impact on you like that and yes too often we worry about what others think of us and really miss out on living life. Easier said than done FSI because I can relate to it.

Too often we worry about what other people will think of us without considering that they are worrying about what other people will think of them, and those people are worrying about what other people will think of them.  It is a common affliction.

the fact he said he was not stressed, sounds like a contradiction if he died of a heart attack, how sad for you.
