FSI ~ wow, it's lots of decisions to be made. I'm curious as to what you'll decide on - Good luck deciding. Elyse

I imagine that you have to give a cut to the credit card company too when using those machines? So you'll have to put your prices up to cover those costs too. Your dad is right to think it through, and make sure it's worth it.

Re: Inspired
We have been doing that with our automatics, the kind where the person pays, inserts a credit card, or punches in a code. They then pull into the bay, and the bay sprays and soaps up the car for them.

There is 1 self serve car wash operation here in town. There are no attendants at all. You drive up and you can put in coins, we have $1.00 and $2.00 coins in Canada. Loonies and Twonies, so that makes life easier at the car wash. You can also put in bills or use a credit card. For the most costly wash with waxing and blow dry on the way out the cost is $10.00. Now this week it's been so busy I just didn't stay there. Too many cars waiting. So I went to the wash where I do it all myself for $3.00. Thought you'd like another perspective.

I would imagine a change would be costly! Have you thought about how long it would take to get a return on an investment of this nature? That might make a difference when it could be implemented! sam

I always go to the coin operated wash prepared...
with lots of quarters on hand...that just avoids the paper money problems.

Seems I need to iron my bills before trying to insert them into machines
..:) At the car wash I use, the operator often runs around making change when necessary. Not a very efficient way of doing business, I'm sure, but he is so nice and helpful. Credit card readers would be an improvement. Interesting post, as always, FSI!

Have you ever considered maybe they can purchase a card that they have a reader read, and depending how much the card is for they can get up to 10 car washes. Ok, I come to your car wash. I give you say, $40.00 and you give me a paper card that will allow me to wash my car up to 5 times. I take the card and I insert in a machine. There is one here like that. It has been doing well.
