I've been reading a lot too
We've had a newspaper delivered each day since Christmas and I am so enjoying it. I used to pick them up from different places according to my schedule but it's great to indulge. Reading lots of books too...

For once, Michelle Obama's 'meddling' may be a good thing: most doctors agree that North Americans use too much sodium in their diet. If they dump it on their food themselves, hey, that's one thing. But it shouldn't be found in excessive amounts in  canned good, and people buy a lot of that stuff, although I don't, I prefer fresh food...

Your posts give me perspectives of US which we don't often get in India! Thanks for your comment. Since you love sugar cane, you should have been here in Bangalore the other day---huge amounts being sold all along the road, truckloads taken away! I've never seen so much sugarcane in my life, as it's not such an important part of the celebrations in north India!

I agree with the premise that lessening the consumption of sodium is good. However; I do not believe that is the job of the merchant, until or unless the consumer complains, not do I want the federal government telling me how much of anything I can eat. I make my own soups for the very reason that I do not need a lot of sodium. The volume of salt in goods is there like all the preservatives that would keep the soup 20 years past our deaths. It is nature's best preservative. It is us who should take action, it is our lives and our country, a free one.  Thanks for your comment.

Darling it is all the fault of all that snow...it was so exciting and now
you have a bit of cabin fever and are wondering what to do. I get like that when I forget to take my vitamin D. Blogit is very quiet.....perhaps we should blame it on the Goblins. or the Gremlins......I am looking forward to seeing Gnomeo and Juliet...what fun....love you dear one.

That first sentence in this post is a humdinger.  It is so telling.  Why is it that our lives are so tied into what we "do"?  I was watching an old movie recently and the fellow applying for a job was told to "Tell me who you are, not what you do."  It stymied the fellow and he couldn't do it.

If Walmart orders low- or no-salt canned/frozen
vegetables, it would reduce sodium consumption for millions. I spend a lot of time at my grocery looking for low sodium products, & don't buy Campbell's soups any more because each serving contains 20% to 30% of the daily salt limit. Manufacturers don't care if one little old lady passes them up for less salty brands, but if Walmart did it, they'd certainly adjust their recipe.

Justi I think one day you will look back and to say your hubby "Remember when I made all those goodies for the market I was really at my prime, that was a beautiful time.' Hopefully he will reply 'Darling you are still wonderful."
