Yes they do tend to have a mottled look sometimes Rumor and different color in different light.

Lo E.E, it was down minus 7 last night so I guess that will finish them until the spring. I was looking through a catalogue and there are some nice perpetual carnations these days I know one can buy them bunched but the always look forced to me. Any way I might try some they are a bit tall but not if one picks the shorter varieties IF they are kept at 45 fahrenheit in a greehouse they will bloom through the winter though slowly of course but I might just let them bloom through the clement months only one can get nice yellows and orange not avaiable in pinks..
