I dont know  that much about unions but I know where I worked for 11 years we had union and I felt happy to have them there for me, and where I work now, they wouldnt get away with the stuff they do if they had a union.

I hear you, Justi! I find that people are waking up though (I mean those who really want to work and not just use the system to buy their beer) because many are not interested in joining unions. I try to encourage small business too, did the same even before I had my own. This was a great post!

As someone whose father owns several small businesses I am loving this post!

I make a point of buying from small businesses when I can
I'd rather shop on Etsy than Ebay and I adore small towns because so many businesses are still owed by families that know the people in the area and care about them.

a great post....how I resented entering University and being
forced to join the Union....Join or leave now I was told. I had been a farmers daughter and then in small business and to me it didn't make sense...now I know that a lot of the fees we paid went towards bands to play at lunch time ...and a centre for the unwed Mom's to leave their babies.Well good they were continuing their education.....but why should I be forced topay forit...I was broke then too  and a single Mom.

Justi - you're so correct in that small business - which require so much are overlooked and I respect them most.  I respect most the people who do have the values of expert care.  It's no longer that in this ever changing society.  Ah, I recall many of my ancestors pulling some heavy loads...my own daddy quit his 6th grade in school, to help farm the rice and sugar cane fields when his daddy, my pawpaw, died.  Oh you are so dedicated and the proof is in the pudding.  Dman was very impressed - we tasted just a taste of the cranberry chutney and yum...I can hardly wait until Thanksgiving... write on, right on dear Lady.  Elyse

Very interesting!  Things have changed so much.  My Dad started working in his Dad's Cafe when he was only five.  He would stand on a big box and cook the steaks to order.  He loved it and the customers loved it and tipped him very well.  His love for cooking got him through the Great Depression and his early adult years, and added a grand dimension to our family and friends gatherings.  What would happen these days if someone had a five year old cooking in a cafe?  LOL

Well like you Justi our family all had small businesses shops and smallholding etc. Of course it has all been taken over by the big guys. Funnily enough though a few new enterprizes  are starting up again in forms that cannot be mass produced. There is a certain satisfaction in pushing your own plough, but it is always hard work, I had a smallholding for years there never seemed time to appreciate that I was free,
