Originally pinks grew in cottage gardens but were just bits given by neighbors the large houses grew flowers perhaps ten gardeners vegetables etc I expect little slips found there way into the villages. Of course not many cottage gardens now usually gravel stones with cars parked. I missed your blog yesterday but caught up with it this morning I don't think you would want a thumb as large as mine E.E, I can't text with it.
