I think the Russias are so vaste, nations and cultures within a nation,
and yes so many people so supressed for sol ong;the cold, Siberia, propaganda, the cold war....somuch I don'teven think the Russian people know their whole country themselves.

I've met only one Russian . . .
But he was funny, happy-go-lucky, handsome, and charming! He was also the best pianist I have ever heard! Certainly not a sad type. Sadly for the world, however, he passed away at a very young age. I miss him terribly.

Great post. Russia has such a fascinating history, the past so different from the present. I have really found books and movies about Russia quite fascinating:
War and Peace, The Brothers Karamozov, Dr. Jhivago, Reds, Fiddler on the Roof, etc., etc.
