No E.E. they are not more delicate as regards hardiness I use to know everything about pinnks I have a book written by the first breeder of Allwoodi pinks and cottage carnations. I'll read through and just explain the difference soon. I am just worried about the excesiive heat you endure and you being able to maintain pots. I mean do you or can you grow stick beans that are edible if you can grow them OK you could give it a shot.

Re:
Lo Back to you CC ~ and now I'm cornfused. Okay so the Pinks are more delicate then, like our Dianthus? I'm so in love with their frilliness...of the carnations and the Pinks and well, you are the Gardener. I can only imagine the 'fragrance' is absolutely delightful 'round you while you play in your greenhouse...EE

LO E.E. It is nice sometimes when only one person has viewed and I can ramble on for a minute or two. Now pinks are a bit different from carnations, which use to be sold from greenhouse as perpetual carnations as they bloomed the year round. I expect that trade is obsolete because in winter I can buy bunches for about 2-50 sterling from the flower seller that have been grown in Columbia. Now pinks, are different they have a beautiful scent well some of the old fashion ones, as I said before I am growing them in pots. They like a fairly open compost and are supposed to be hardy, But I shall overwinter in a greenhouse and take some good strong cuttings. One day I might find an old story poem about when I was a boy and thought I would have a beautiful garden of pinks. I would think I had wooden thumb at that time.

CC - that looks yummy enough to eat and I do believe carnations are edible? You know I will reveal a secret - yes, I told my husband yesterday that I was 'jealous' - and I dislike that term but, I must admit...I told him I wanted a green thumb as yours. That your carnations are more or to be truthful just as delightful as your Auriculas were and still are. Yes, I have copies yet to display ~ EE
