One can drink Australian wine ar any time...no need for the odd excuse.

lol I shall take your advice re the Rhubarb and perhaps plant immediately the winter is over....we get feet of snow here even when the winter is mild like last year. Another good reason to drink wine!!!!!

I am dreading the trip back to Australia.

I had a wonderful friend in Ludlow....she made all types of fruit wines one year when I was with her...and one night I did the taste test. Knocked myself out for hours so I did. Goodness me they were strong spirits. She is gone now....all the good die young......I should think that I shall make one hundred or so!

Re:
Sam at least it is your own creation and as you know many flowers like sun but not exessive heat. I hope you are not short of water.

Re: The colour is divine...yes not nice weather and not my best day today
I don't think it matters when you plant them if you buy in a container and keep them watered, but make sure it is a nice sweet variety, those big thick stalked ones are shivery. Perhaps it would be better until you returned from your visit, I don't know what Autumn is like in Canada, this last few years it has been quite mild here. I wouldn't bother with little plants and I don't want to suggest dividing your own, because it is probably old. Better to have two nice big potfuls. If you had ever been ill after drinking Rhubarb wine, well thats another story. I meant to tell you I managed to get some cheap Pinot Noir Rosemount Estate Australia S.E. Not bad stuff for 2008. I only drink to lubricate the senses when writing a hot poem.

Re:
I know Shobana I am going to build a collection of pinks, they don't do very well in the garden, but if one grows in pots and take cuttings each year they seem to do OK. I shall have to improve my photography skills .Thank goodness the site seems to have settled down, I thought my computer was cashing in its chips.

I shall surely stay in love for a very long time, if not forever

I kept Geraniums that way last winter and it worked quite well...it is terrible for an Aussie to do this with Geraniums that grow like weeds in Australia.....but yes, the bugs and small rodents leave them alone and they flourish all summer and continue to bloom. Petunias are doing well here this year too so long as I keep the water up to them. When do I plant new Rhubarb roots?
