Kabu
Reminds me of an area just north of Toronto, the Holland Marsh. It too was settled by a certain ethnic group - guess which, LOL, - and they turned what was once a bog into a fertile vegetable paradise, which sells its products in Torornto...

That happens a lot here too Kabu. I think they really live simple lives and help each other out quite a bit. Glad you had a great time sweet one.

What in Montreal we call the 'Italian' syndrome - the huge family arriving, bunched in and living & sharing together, until it starts to pay off. There is much sacrifice of privacy involved, but the result seems to be worth it to them. And you ended up having a good day - I'm sure that was mostly because your charm made that happen, Kabu.

I have found it fascinating how some immigrants have been able to build up their wealth so quickly like you. I think now in the United States it is harder because a) the recession and b)there is a huge gap with which to overcome in terms of money, language, etc.

New immigrants seem to work harder than the folks who were there
already, and do without what we consider necessities, like beds for each one and privacy. They've got their eyes on the prize. Seems to happen for them, no matter what part of the world they come from.

Write on!

Very interesting Kabu I used to grow vegetables and fruit, but it was hard graft although enjoyable, but I never made money out of it. I wonder if the land increased in value, perhaps they only ate vegetables, It is a wonder sometimes how people exist on small holdings, but I suppose they like the way the day unfolds, not much fun screwing bolts up each day. Be happy

Kabu,
I guess they were successful by utilizing patience, determination and a dream. I envy people like that. BTW, "Lettuce Pray" made me LOL! ;)
