The phone I'm going to donate doesn't have a SIM card
That's what Nokia calls the memory chip Jemmie mentions. I'm using a Nokia with a SIM card right now - GPRS and the whole nine yards. Really snazzy. The Nokia I'm donating is a digital rather than a GSM.

A good idea!  And if you take out your memory chip and destroy it prior to giving the phone to charity, you can be sure that all your stored phone numbers and messages are not seen by others.
