I've been told the same thing about quitting cold turkey. That it will cause stress on me and therefor stress on the baby and they said that stress was worse for the baby then the cigarette itself. The only proven effect of smoking on an infent is a possible lower birth weight but even that is uncommong so, other then the obvious decreas in my oxygen intake and the obvious chemicals they aren't quite as bad as they are made out to be

I smoked with my oldest, my doctor even told me not to go cold turkey
as it would cause distress on the baby. I did quit while I was pregnant but started back again and now 23 yrs later I am trying to quit again, this time for good.
