It's all in the attitude. When my youngest son was in kindergarten (age 5) he had not yet stopped sucking his thumb and the other boys started making fun of him. He developed his own bad word "Muh!" which he delivered in much the same way todays children say
"_uck U" and when reprimanded by the principal pulled his thumb out of his mouth and said it to her. He was suspended for the day.
