Clever dog... and a spooky story.  Maybe he picked up on the strange character of the homeowners?..

I trust my dogs' reactions, Naut - especially if it's an unusual reaction. It means something is out of the ordinary. I'd have checked it out further unles....no pictures? Could this be a 'Nautikos Hallowe'en Story'?

That's so interesting! And, I imagine, one VERY smart pooch!

Easy explanation. Over time often dog and owner acquire a physical resemblance. The same applies to sensibilities. So, I'm not at all surprised at Jag's reaction. Now, what does that say about the nature of your co-dog-owners?

Fantastic description.
I don't know whether photos would have been better than you words, I suspect not. Excellent post and a joy to read.

Aww poor JAG ~ How keen that you two are connected.  I believe this --- I believe in much with animals because I've had them all my life and each one has had a different personality.  What a neat account to share, however, I would have been ewwwgeed out as well.  UGH ~ that's scary no matter how creative.  LOL, I tell ya Naut, I would have been not going 'round that one again.  (but me, I can't stand 'goriness and the older I get I suppose)...  ~ Elyse

Like humans I guess animals have different reactions to the same things.

We had a neighbour like that with lots of frightening things and even a moving werewolf on the deck....It scared Son so much when he was about 5 y o that he didn't want to go back there for years...even in summer without the Halloween things!LOL and yep, dogs (certain breeds or individual at least) are very intelligent, actually, more than some people I know...

Quite surprising - that reaction, and the fact that it took your dog a moment to register what he saw and jump back.  Makes me wonder if perhaps something suddenly moved (like a snake or worm or other insect) that perhaps spooked while he was staring intently.  Wonderful post - I really enjoyed reading about your neighbors! Who knows what goes on in the mind of a dog?
Who knows what goes on in the mind of a weird neighbor?
I would suggest that neighbor of yours perhaps could use the services of a psychiatric service dog.

What weird neighbours you've got! Brilliant description, so I forgive you for not taking any photos.

Years and years ago I had a poodle and she was the most intelligent
dog I ever owned. Humans just don't understand the level of reasoning that so called dumb animals can possess. My Gi Gi helped me bring up my babies she was far more maternal than I was and worried over them the whole time, always knew where they were, what they were up to and would drag them out of harms way..literally. Your beautiful dog understood that this was a horrible depiction and reacted more like a five year old who will tellyou straight out that something is disgusting. But they are an intelligent breed.
