Woe is me!
Oh dear, oh dear! Listen dear Blogit friends, I do hope that you have understood that there is no evidence whatsoever that  Obama was/is/will be interested in introducing this language. The point of yesterday's post was to show how certain of his critics have misunderstood (willingly or unwillingly) that he has been influenced by Esperanto campaigners. Some of these people have been using this misunderstanding in their campaign against him.

A long shot, I agree with Wiley. But I have the feeling that Obama means well.

I't does seem a long shot that Esperanto would be used much in the U.S. but one never knows Elinjo

I have no problem with Esperanto or any language for that matter being taught in the classroom...Unfortunately I think the trend of American children not learning it would continue.

A common language throughout the world would be great
but if it ever happens itis most likey to be English. I know places in Asia where iy is first language in schools now. But I am always inerested in your writing about your passion.

It was never, ever thought of as a language that would replace our mother-tongues. It was meant only to be used for international communication.

Well, a lot of things have been said about Pres. Obama
but I never before heard it said he was ready to undo the Tower of Babel. It seems highly unlikely that Esperanto would ever become the language of business and government in the U.S.A. -- there's still a movement afoot to make it All English, All the Time. Anyone with an eye on what's going on can see that we need to speak at least a little of other languages, and that smidgens of the romance languages have become woven into the tapestry of American English, especially when we refer to food: i.e., pizza, spaghetti, taco, burrito, etc.
