After watching the linked bit,

I totally see your point.

And what's with Oprah's Thulsa Doom look?  (Google Conan the Barbarian movie, if you don't know that one...  look at James Earl Jones in the role of Thulsa Doom.  Separated at birth?  Which is the Evil Twin?)

Re: So if that isn't typical, then what is?
Lustorlove! Is there a typical American home? Would you like to 'visit' mine? If so please click on the following link for see my home, which is just one of many, many varieties of Danish homes. http://picasaweb.google.com/liberbirdo/MyHome?authkey=Gv1sRgCMi7zPPhiYuCZQ#

To be perfectly honest, it's not even typical of my home, because I tidied up before I took the pictures!

What an interesting and well-written post.  Since I did not see Oprah's program and know not much about Copenhagen, I am going to go now and check out all of your links before I make any further comment.

Re. Yesterday's blog 'Fairy Tales'.
I'd like to thank those of you who read this and especially the readers who commented on it. Your comments have given me a lot to think about and has given me an idea for my next blog. Best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable day, wherever you are.

Elinjo
I was one of the rest of humanity who didn't watch that program. One reason is that I never watch Oprah, on principle. And to properly explain my reasons for not watching her show would probably require another series, for which I have no time right now. What's more, there are more important matters to be addressed...

We get more reality by reading one another's blogs then by watching a program by arguably the most influential woman in the USA.

I am not much of an Oprah viewer so no I missed it but I do admire
your telling her show how it really is. I know that it is a beautiful country and you have our Mary for your Princess so Australia just loves Denmark but everywhere there are social problems.

Re: Oprah's show.
If she would like to pay my full expenses I would accept her invitation with the greatest of pleasure.

On a par with her visit to New Orleans during the early Katrina recovery.
Why would viewers tune in to see an average middle class family? They can get that at home. All about the eye on the screen.

I didn't watch the program but I am delighted with your spunky comment to Oprah. Hope she invites you on her show!!!

I must check out the links; thanks for an objective picture Betty. Thanks very much too for your visits and kind comments, and write whenever you're free, no hurry. Have a good weekend! Nita.

What a different kind of home! I love that it is so clean! I adored how Oprah was taken with the children's bedroom! I believe people want to see the best things in life and she brings it to them! Shelly

I totally agree with you.
Yes, you are completely correct Betty. Oprah only saw the image of Denmark that she wanted to see. It is typical of Japanese TV also - show the beauty, hide the not-so beautiful. So, we the viewers, watch a rich woman visit another rich woman's home and they speak as though this was the norm. In there world perhaps it is the normal, but reality it is not - ignorance is bliss. As I said, Japanese television too, only shows Japan in a good light. Excellent post.

Elinjo

As with most of her “visits” to other countries or when she does interviews with women around the world, I have often thought she is sharing with us the lives of the middle to upper class.  Surely every country has its stains and embarrassments.  The comments you provided us with were interesting.

I believe this kind of broadcast is exactly why so many people in
the rest of the world believe Americans either live in a violent, gang-ridden ghetto or the lap of luxury, with fancy kitchens and spa bathrooms, extravagant parties all the time. Truth is, most of the people I know are not. Thanks for sharing this insight. Still, how nice to think that at least one part of the world is lovely, Utopian and well-managed.

Re: Shobana
Thanks for your visit! Yes, Denmark has many good points; amongst others its scenery, medical care and many other things. My objection was presenting that family and that dwelling as typical; it is certainly not. Have a pleasant weekend.

Elinjo - No I have not watched the programme but if I had and had not read your comments..I would think that it is just as it is..notwithstanding the cons..that lady's home looked immaculately kept, I saw the leaves on the trees outside the windows turning color and it had a beautiful view. I must say Denmark is a beautiful country. Have a lovely weekend.
