There is much truth in here...
Excessivism, extremism, addiction are all forms of psychological / emotional disorders. Prayers, meditation, counseling, behavioral therapy all help some. Society, some media, some organizations, unfortunately, play a huge role in breeding these disorders. Social work / service such as yours is very commendable. I know folks mostly both in the US and in India, and some elsewhere, who are engaged in such noble activities. Recently, a friend of mine, who is a licensed nurse practitioner, took 3 months' without pay leave from work, and spent it serving in such a facility in India. She has come back highly charged and has started an organization, written a book, holds walks / fund-raisers to aid that facility. Seeing such people around, strengthens my inherent belief in the goodness of human beings, despite a lot of the crap that goes around. Peace & blessings,

Thank you so much. Many people do this work all over this country daily. We think one person off drugs and/or alcohol has a positive effect on numerous lives.

The staff may. We do not. We teach life skills and we offer Christian counseling on prayer and meditation. Our work is not on stopping the addictive behavior but getting them into a position to learn new behavior patterns. They need to know they are valuable human beings - on a fast track of dehumanizing themselves first, then learn who they are and how to clean up the total past in order to begin to paint on a new canvas. I don't find many of them are more excessive than people in the general population. They are obsessive to a higher level.

Justi, does the institution where you give so humanely of your time offer meditation courses? Just a question....I found with the younger ones, meditation helped, especially in the searching for the artificial high, and curbing excessive behaviour.

I do not understand anyone ingesting poison for an artificial high! From the pictures I have seen, it is most destructive! I am at a loss with this addiction, why start? Praise the Lord they have you!!!! sam
