Politics and humanitarian concerns rarely if ever mesh. The famous American sociologist, in his book The Sociological Imagination, provides an excellent analysis of the relationship between 'public issues' and 'private troubles'...

So much misery in this world.  It is good to take a stand,
in whatever way we can.

Elinjo - It is a sad situation to be in, I sympathise with the Iraqis. I also think that politics and compassion and sometimes no matter what they say, human rights too don't mix. I loved this read.

Still such a sad situation. I wish there could be some resolution.

You're right - compassion and politics do not mix very well. Never did. Pilate washed his hands, didn't he?

Re: I'm sorry for those who got sent back to who knows what fate.
Thanks Pat, the trouble is that it's not the bureaucrats that are at fault it's the politicians.

Hope it all makes an impact on the authorities. Such a pity when the homeless don't get any consideration. Sorry for the brief comments, but you know my usual state with all the deadlines! Nita.

I'm sorry for those who got sent back to who knows what fate.
If "good" governments (people are managing somewhere there) don't stand up for human rights, then struggle against bad regimes seems pointless. Operative word here is "seems." Good for your red balloons and the protests. Maybe the message will get to those bureaucrats who forgot they're human and made the merciless decision.
