No government is free of mistakes! I think churches should keep out of it! Also, Israel is always going to be small but mighty! It will survive as it has all these years! I would like to see peace for all but so much misunderstanding abounds that I ponder if it can ever occur! sammy

Re: gap Posted by Nautikos
my issue, Nautikos, is that these two actions, opposed by much of the world, are the source of bad relations between Israel and much of the world, particularly the Arab World, and are the greatest obstacle to peace in the Middle East.

We can eliminate the Wall from discourse, and still have the settlements, which, by their very nature, violate U.N. Resolutions, and disrupt Palestinian Arabs, not only Muslims, bu Christians, displacing them from their land.  This is similar to Imminent Domain, but the displaced seem not to receive similar compensation.

The church in Canada should stick to their service of worship: They should sing, pray, and focus on themselves in their tradition. The only common ground in these serious political issues is the need to wish Israel and South Africa love. Certainly the United Church of Canada whatever should have more in common with Israel. Have a good day. BC-A, Bill’s Avant-Garde Collection

gap

It's just the old anti-Semitism in a new, 'fashionable' garb.

Israel, which has been under siege since its inception and is still not accepted as legitimate by most of her neighbours, is the only beacon of freedom and democracy in the Middle East.

Canada's United Church is just a wing of the NDP, the New Democratic Party, which extends all the way to the extreme, totalitarian Left, where anti-Semites tend to congregate these days, and from where they spout inane nonsense, such as comparing the wall Israel was forced to erect to the Berlin Wall.

Is it so difficult to comprehend, Xeno? The Berlin Wall was built by a criminal regime to keep a captive people in. Israel's wall was built to keep murderous terrorists out...

I like you and I like your blog
and I do think the protests you speak of pretty much go over the top

however,

and I have hesitant to say anything because of my repsect for you.

I had a Jewish uncle and a Jewish woman was my second wife, so I bear no prejudice at all.

however,

I have a problem in with intransigence of conservatives in Israel, particularly Netanyahu, in regard to halting settlements on the West Bank and constructing a wall resembling the Berlin Wall that encroaches on Palestinian territory.

These two actions alone have spawned much protest.  Peace cannot be brought about as long as these are ongoing.

I won't leave out, though, the terrorism of certain Palestinian factions.  These, also, don't lend themselves to the promotion of peace.

But Israel's seeming strong-arm activities leave many people in a state of bewilderment, myself included.

Oh me!  I have no suggestions.  It is beyond me.  I'll never understand the ways of prejudice and hate.  I am appalled at information like this that includes churches that originated in order to worship God.

One thing to criticize Israeli government policy another thing to go over the top and start comparing it with Nazi Germany etc. That's when the criticism begins to stink of anti-semitism.

I believe all Churches should stick to providing a place of worship and
leave politics and state matters to the state.
