So many places are not looking at the welfare of their employees.

As you say in other words than mine, it surely does make one not want to go to work.

The most important thing in business - to treat your employees as real people. Those are the businesses which do well.

Re: Lustorlove.
Lustorlove, nobody stops you sending the link to whom ever you want to. If people don't talk about matters like this the situation will never improve. It's in everybody's interest; not least of all the employers. After all they lose money too when they have to pay sick leave. Hm, do you get paid sick leave in the States?

Re: The thing is, these guys don't even realize they're shooting themselves
Yes agreed Pat. A kind word of praise and appreciation works wonders. Afterwards if there is need for criticism it goes down more easily. THanks for visiting me, have a nice day. It must be breakfast time in your part of the world!

Re: Shelly
Hallo Shelly, thanks for your comment. I've known people like that at work too; terrible, terrible people.
My daughter's life is very, very demanding at present. Her exam's coming up and I suggested to her that she postpone due to compassionate grounds, but she prefers to forge ahead and get it over and done with. My ex-brother-in-law is coming too at the end of the month; as she so rightly says, it would have been better if he had got his act together before the death...
Thank you for thinking about her and remembering her in your prayers - you are very kind.
RE. my story. Well that comes under the heading of things to be resumed later on. Copenhagen will be hosting the 2011 World Esperanto Congress. This will mean more work for all of us including me.

The thing is, these guys don't even realize they're shooting themselves
in the foot with this behavior. Give someone a pat on the back, one little "well done" or thank you, and they'll work even harder. The tiniest bit of appreciation is magic in the business world of ingrates.

I worked for a superintendent of schools who was like that! He enjoyed demeaning the administrative staff under him and bragged about firing people! He would have all of us fit to be tied! I remember him making life so bad for the high school principal that he left! The other thing that astounds me is how long it takes to expose these types for who they are! I hope you have a marvelous day! I just wanted to toss in that I am so missing your story and hope you can revive it soon! How is your daughter doing? She crosses my mind from time to time and I say a prayer for her! Her plate is so full with the exam coming up that I pray she is coping and doing well! Shelly

Elinjo - yes this is true. In order to rake in the profit, the welfare of the employees have to be taken into account.
