Re: formerstudentintern
In some ways I'm a fast learner. However the language is very, very regular i.e. logical. I must admit I worked hard too. The conventions are for all kinds of people; it's there you meet up with a cross section of the Esperanto community.

Re: Re: Re: Lustorlove
Your Viking ancestors invaded Britain and left their influence on the English language. In addition there are certain international words that seem to crop up in lots of languages.

Sounds like you're a fast learner given that you started to learn a few years back and are going to the conventions.

Re:
That sounds like a really interesting idea. Just for fun you might like to have a look at this  site. It is a Swedish  picture dictionary http://www.enchantedlearning.com/themes/swedish.shtml .

I agree that different things work as springboards for different people and
for different blogs too!

I agree about life
being too short for regrets; we have to live every day to the full and, as I approach my fiftieth birthday next year, that's exactly what I plan to do

its funny my daughter was interested in learning German, my mom who was swedish knew very little of that language, maybe i should look into the language of my ancestry

Re: Elinjo. One language..impossible dream. John Wiley.
The idea is visionary and it could well be that it proves to be impossible. However perhaps the most important thing is that people are using it  and by using it they are meeting new people, whom they never otherwise would have met and talked to. In the long run that could have a very positive effect on the way we all think about each other.
The funny thing is that nobody seems to think it odd that English appears to act as the universal language. That seems to me a bit illogical.
Doing psychology at university must have been very interesting. Have a really pleasant day.

Betty, that was a great decision--thanks for sharing with us! I must look at the link. Have a good day! Nita.

Elinjo

Neat post my friend, you have grit as they say. I never would be able to do that, I'm just too comfortable the way I am now.

All I did have was an 8th grade education so I went back to school at night to graduate high school at age 55 and that drained me. I did do one year of psychology at university, but quit that after my wife died.

The idea of having one language to communicate with the world is a good one but I think an impossible dream.

Thank you, my friend. I have bookmarked the site and will be taking a proper look. Beginning to regret my busy life, but no doubt I could find time if I really wanted to!

I've been hearing about Esperanto since ... well, maybe the '60s
but when I went for a 2nd language I chose French. I got along fairly well with it for a while, but never really used it much, stopped reading it, so it's mostly gone. I think, since there are so many Spanish speaking people in the U.S. these days it would have been much more useful to learn Spanish. I love the sound of it, the rhythms and fluidity, so much softer than  English.
