That brings back memories of my own boyhood passions - trains, cars and also horses and tractors (since we spent parts of the summer in the country on my uncle's farm)... I still have dreams of riding the Orient Express one day, or at least taking the train from Halifax to Vancouver...

Too bad trains are not big over here in the U.S.

Re: I'd like to see the grand old passenger trains come back
I thought there were a few left in the States. One of these days I plan to try some of them. I agree with you about cell-phones, who wants to be on line the whole time?

Re:
If you are ever in Nice try the single gauge railway from Nice to Dignes. http://www.ivebeenthere.co.uk/places/france/nice/tips/train The scenery is spectacular and many of the villages on the way are worth visiting.

I'd like to see the grand old passenger trains come back
here in America. The dining cars, the elegant table service, the fact that cell phones wouldn't be invented for 50 years or so, that luscious little island in time between origin and destination... oh, it would be so fine to travel that way.

Such a lovely post.
Grandchildren are a whole world of another kind. I love their visits which are rare. Your links were interesting as well. Be blessed and have lots of fun with Josh.

I share Josh's interest in train travel. I would so much like to trvale on the Orient Express, be it only from London to Venice, but it's so hideously expensive. But I loveit when the superfast spanish ones just whizzzz by. It's exhilerating. Thanks for reading my Galicia travels and I promise more about the witches.
