I think that what it boils down to is that some are going to have to be made to get more fuel efficient cars and the like. To do that some are going to complain about their rights being infringed upon. I do think over time though more people will become more receptive to the idea. I should note as well that I am only speaking from an American view.

Clean energy requires a spectrum of solutions.
Battery-powered transportation vehicles is definitely one of them, and is being gradually proven to be not only feasible but also cost-effective. There is not going to be one universal solution to all the world's energy problems, so the nay-sayers better stop whining, and at the least start curbing their own wasteful ways. My kudos to Denmark & Israel, they have some of the smartest engineers in the world.

Re:
If people went overboard and disposed of their still serviceable cars that would create an even bigger disposal problem. Exciting prospects!

Re: Re: Re:
Apparently the engines would be quieter, so that could reduce noise pollution just a little bit too. It'll be interesting to see if all this works.

Re: Re:
I am waiting in line for the opportunity to buy one! But it has to be long lasting, greater mileage (200+ per charge), and not cost 20,000 on top of a normal car price........let's keep our fingers crossed!

I don't know why we couldn't make it work.
Personally, I'm hoping my present car will last for as long as I keep driving. LOL
I'd hate shopping for a new one and making payments again.

Re:
In some places they do, but until nobody had thought of a way of solving the re-charging problem. Agreed it would be daft to change your car whilst it's fully functional.

Re: I think this idea is great, and there will be more...
In Denmark we get something like 20% of our electricity from wind-turbines and this will make the batteries even more green. Thanks for the visit Pat!

Re:
We've had electric cars here for some time, but they have not really been popular, because of the battery re-charging problem. However now the government is going to back up the change in infrastructure etc, it could very well work. Interesting to see what happens.
Thanks for your visit and support Nita; I'll be in touch.

Re: Right now? Pie In The Sky.......
According to the information on the links I provided the plan in Denmark is to establish recharging and swapping stations all over the country. With regard to subsidies it is a question of priorities; although we are one of the most heavily taxed countries in the world there is a general consensus that ‘we should pay our taxes with joy.’
It is of course easier to manage this in lilliput countries like Israel and Denmark. However I understand that Hawaii is quite interested in the scheme too.

I'm sure it's viable....there is one model of a battery operated car in India (Reva) and seems to be gaining in popularity, though not as much as one would have thought. Thanks for your visit and the messages, Betty.

Right now? Pie In The Sky.......
Until long lasting batteries, with greater mileage range, at reasonable costs are developed, Battery cars will be confined to the inner cities and governmental cars. As to compensation to those who buy battery cars....who do you think pays for that subsidy? we cannot solve any of the problems facing us without a viable economy. The recent actions of the House of Reps......will only worsen our economic situation for decades.......
Dreaming is a wonderful thing.....we just have to make sure we can separate the dreams from the hallucinations......

I think this idea is great, and there will be more...
Like solar collectors to fuel the charging stations. Might not work so well in climates that get dark in winter, but there's a lot of geography where that might work.
