I think we're in agreement here Naut (Mneme nods head sagely...)

We are all 'challenged' in some way. Some of us more than others. It is my right to have each of my legs extended at least six inches. I am not able to reach the stars. Legally I am sure I haven't a leg to stand on. Oh sorry, I am tired and it is late.

Re: Re: mneme
Philosophy of law? Very, very interesting to me...but here we have a case that does involve ethics, as you suggest, and possibly (and I am not a lawyer) one of law...(Involving, among other things, the business's legal obligation to provide access to its premises for the handicapped)...But I insist (and I would argue at some length if I had the time as well as the inclination), that this is not a case of 'human rights'...

Re: mneme
Naut - I just happen to be looking into the philosophy of law at the moment - so I suppose this just struck a chord. The point is, he has lost a convenience he was previously able to enjoy, and his scooter doesn't fit the profile of customers speeding away... so Horton's could bend the rules a little. More a question of ethics, would you say?

Thanks for the additional info! The case is slightly bizarre - for one thing I don't quite understand the need for Tim Hortons policy, and somehow they should have been able to accommodate the guy - but, and this is a big but: This is no a case of 'human rights', and certainly not one for the Human Rights Commission, which has become an extra-judicial pain in the derriere anyway, with no regard for due process...

Re:
Naut - this one intrigued me, so I ... did a little digging... "A Tim Hortons spokesman, David Morelli, said it's too dangerous for scooters in the drive-thru because sometimes patrons drive fast while leaving the window." - one can only shake one's head in wonder...

Re: Uhhhhh??
Here's you answer Corbin...

""It would take three people to get me in. And I don't even know if I'll be able to turn around when I get inside. And, if I don't run over somebody inside trying to back this up, it would be a small miracle," Matthews said."

Tim Hortons are just being pedantic... there are scooters, and there are disability scooters...

Doesn't that remind you of the woman who sued a company when her RV went off the road after she had put on the cruise control and went to the toilet? Can't remember if she won...

everybody is "sue" happy these days... I bet he saw dollar signs
the minute he couldn't get served.   "I'll take a coffee with 2% and and I'll own this joint before it's all said and done."   PEOPLE !!!  UGH !

I get that he wants his coffee but ... I can't understand why not just get it from somewhere else...Obviously the guy suing has too much time in his hands... its ridiculous with all the human rights violations that there are all over the world that coursts should be tied down even talking about such a frivolous suit... Its crazy!

Just imagine how fast this guy would sue the coffee place if he fell off his scooter going through the drive-through!!  Why can't he just get a car retrofitted for his disability and drive through like everyone else!!!  Mal
