I live in a rural area too Joe and I took the mailbox down and got me a box at the post office downtown. Now I don't have the farming yahoos busting them up anymore and I have no birdy doo on my mail. LOL

Curious to know how your going to handle this dilemma with Monster and the bird.
I've never had a bird try to build a nest in my mailbox but one summer I had a bird in the yard that I swear waited for me to get the mail just so it could use my head to poop. I ended up putting a piece of plastic on to cover my head.

Your kitchen table!! It's time for action....you surely have some way of forcing this issue....the Monster cannot possibly be completely independent....you surely have some tool to apply pressure to get the mailbox fixed and the mess cleaned up...not to mention learning that you do have your limits. Whether it's through his stomach or otherwise, all husbands can be convinced to do the right thing! For starters, I suggest making him deal with the poopy envelope....wet is one thing...shit is entirely unacceptable!

Wet mail isn't good. The bird's nest thing is bad.
A bird started to build a nest just above my back door. I noticed several long straws blowing around the porch as I went in and out the other day to plant a grape at the arbor. When I looked up and saw the nest under construction, I thought about knocking it off before there were eggs in it. Apparently the bird decided she didn't like the high traffic area, too many humans in and out, so next morning the nest was gone. Every straw and scrap. I never saw a bird move a nest like that, but she had already gathered the materials.

Mailbox blues.
This winter, our mailbox was blasted off it's perch twice by snowplows. Fortunately it is made to come off rather than be smashed to smithereens. Needless to say, we had wet mail those days, but luckily no bird poop, they were all vacationing in sunny southern climes.
