Glad to see the story return.
Sarah's question towards the end was funny.

This surely brings back memories to me about eating dinner at my best friends house when I was a kid. Mrs. Randall was not a good cook at all (in my opinion). Whoever heard of candying carrots or making mock-chicken legs that tasted like not-good meatloaf on a stick. My mom put carrots in the stew or soup or served them raw and crunchy. And in our house chicken was really chicken and went with mashed potatoes and gravy. Love your story.
