I started with log, and then decided that shovel was just as 'correct', although obeying a different logic. The first choice would be a strictly 'formal logic' (the only non-tool among the four items), but the shovel would be excluded if you apply a logic-in-use scheme (use of axe and saw on the log). But in a logic-in-use framework the shovel is not entirely eliminated: how else do you deal with the chips and the sawdust?

Apparently in Blogitland, we are trained to answer both log and shovel
My first response was shovel, then I saw log was a possibility... but still preferred the
feel of eliminating the shovel.

That's funny, I did the same thing, Log, then Shovel. But, for the sake of argument, log was first response. It is fascinating how we think, and how where we live and were brought up affects it. The real question would be can we recognize these things in ourselves? Or something

Very interesting. At first I would have said log, but before I could read the rest I got called away from the computer. When I came back I looked at the four again before finishing reading and I decided shovel was a more appropriate answer. Now I don't know what to think of myself. LOL
