I know that in my father's family that Italian was lost during the second generation.

Arriving at Ellis Island after a bad trip across the Atlantic wasn't exactly like visiting Coney Island on a Holiday.  Grandma & Grandpa Jelinek never again saw the sea and they never learned to speak English.  I really like your story.
