we had friends over for lunch. and some serious chat happened that kept bringing your series into mind. naturally, i was at the comp even before they would have reached the gate.
you speak of silence as effectively supporting a take. i was told today that the Hindu scipture, the 'Bhagwat Gita' says precisely that, and in no uncertain terms. in fact it holds it in worse regard. To convince a victimised set of cousins into battle to reclaim their usurped kingdom and avenge atrocities suffered, Lord Krishna, their guide and mentor, tells them : if committing crime is a sin, tolerating that crime is a greater sin. if one, knowingly, turns a blind eye to crime and stays quiet for eternity, what superlative level of sin would that be, i wonder.

Thanks Naut, for an informative and clear piece. Dogma is what defines us, in terms of religious beliefs. I suppose that can cut both ways.

Naut: Each religion's dogma are interpreted by different of its sect to justify what each does. Judaism, Christianity, Muslim. They are only a trifle unalike in this regard.

An interesting and important overview, Naut. I agree with Ash somewhat but it doesn't account for all the silence, and doesn't explain the massive riots that break out in Europe and other places in the world when Muslims are the perceived victims. Mal

It is the silence that unnerves me the most! Another excellent entry Naut! Shelly

Naut, the silence of some moderates...
could also be due to fear of possible retaliations from the fundamentalists!

The "deafening silence" is a result of their pretence that all is well and is necessary to their status quo and their peace of mind. If they speak up, it might then demand some kind of action or life-changing situation.
