Those who don't want to see unpleasant truths

are sneered at, but I believe the flaw is not only about not having oneself stirred into action by the intolerable: I believe that most reasonably decent human beings find it difficult to believe that some things can happen or can be happening, because they believe that human kind is essentially driven by what they regard as sense and morality.

This is my initial response, Naut--I will be thinking further on this and re-reading your posts.

This "Even in Europe where there is more awareness, where the problem is more acute, the debate fiercer, but where ‘solutions’ are as impossible to come by, if not more so, voices of reason are being silenced." doesn't sound like we have much chance here of warding off the same situation of it becoming more acute.  Do you ever have any fearful thoughts of the possibility of being silenced?

Naut this is outstanding! I am just following along and trying to get an understanding! I think it feels so much like the more we change the more we stay the same. No one really seems to want to get involved by any side at any point! It gives the militants a lot of pasture so to speak. Just thinking out loud though! Shelly

"Are leftist feminists really ready to don the niqab?"
...an extremely relevant, albeit, relatively ignored question!
In the case of History being change, it's the kinds of compromises that are made in the face of inequality and struggle that determines the outcome.
One of the disadvantages of widespread affluence is that the citizenry becomes too comfortable and content, so that it loses it's "toughness" i.e. ability to face-up-to and deal with uncomfortable realities.
This is, I believe...and, I gather, you do, too...the crisis currently facing Western Civilization.
Brilliant post, Naut...thank you!
