I live in Tucson, Arizona, and once again, your writing makes me thankful.
OMG, I am so old and lazy now that if I were you, I'd be packing for the move out west. The most I do to heat the house is to turn on the thermostat and set it at 67 for the winter. Then I put on or take off extra sweaters and long underwear accordingly.
Physical labor consists of kicking a soccer ball for the dogs, raking up dog poop, dead bamboo debris and dead cactus. Done in minutes with no sweat, if I want to do it slowly.
But, if you moved, we wouldn't have these fabulously agonizing stories with which to compare our own easier lives. So, stay there, blog when you can, don't die in the woods and take care, and we will all pray for less snow for your area of the US.

Re: The cost of hardwood firewood.
Sam,
What we call a cord of wood is actually half of a true cord. If this is all hardwood and is delivered, It nows runs $50.00 per 4'x8'x1&1/2'. As I was writing about my hope that new snow would hold off for awhile, more was falling in the darkness outdoors. SIGH! At least nobody can blame me for naming "Mother Nature." If there is actually, a GOD, I'll not be surprised to learn that he is really a she, and dealing with PMS or menopause. I must have really pissed her off, in a past life.
