I've never seen one, never heard of them until your post.
But they sound delicious. It's apple-picking time here in midwestern USA too, and this particular part of Illinois produces a lot of apples and peaches. It's a lush time of year. Thanks for your informative story and the pictures. :)pat

Hello from Scotland! I love custard apples. We used to live in Southern Spain, where they are called chirimoya. They are fantastic, sweet and caramelly. They look smoother than your ones. We don't get them here, and I really miss them!
