robdon76, what a great vision
Despite the reports, Kashmir is still a lovely place, rather safe and a houseboat visit is always my favourite.  Come!  I am happy to host you in my Delhi home.

I imagine the shawl will be most beautiful. When I was young I used to like imagining living on a houseboat in Kashmir but now it seems to be a rather politically volatile place. Maybe someday I will see it anyway.

Pat B, what a pity a man wouldn't welcome a shawl
Here there are different lengths for men about 3 yards and for women about 2 yards.  Men wear them in the winter over their traditional gear.  Gifts of scarves are considered precious, and yes, manly OK. In the Buddhist tradition, scarves are given to guests and honoured people. Most of the men in our family have shawls which they pull out in the winter.  Some of the most fashionable and well to do politiicians, muscians and artists on our country wear them.  I'll try and upload some photos of these.  Cheers.

Swimming in moonlight? Bats flying around? Wow!
And a shawl as a gift for a man: seems to me like a grand idea, but here in the U.S., a man might not welcome the comfort so much as feel his masculinity was questioned. A shawl here is a garment for older women. The world is so marvelous and strange. :)
