At least we can count on these lessons coming back reliably
until we do learn them!

agree with Bel on this one...lessons we learn over again are the toughest!

I always thought that mistakes were not mistakes if we learned from them...they became lessons.  The same is with lessons...if not learned they are not lessons but mistakes and we have to do them over and over.  Great post

The lessons not yet learned
those are the worst when we seem to need to learn them over and over again.

Old habits die hard. New ones take a long time to stick. I think.

Troosha, that is such a great picture!

Good point, too--that we feel secure in our suspenders and fear to trust our pants to stay up without them...  So we don't just take 'em off!

nb: belts can get hung up on door knobs, too...

Genio & Harderup,

Yes, I think it is a matter of spirals, that only look like waves when looked at two-dimensionally...  Like spiraling up the inside of a rainbarrel: we hit the same stave many times, but always in a new place on it!

The Rainbarrel Effect!

But sometimes it's almost as though we feel safe in the Suspender Effect.

Re: Waves ... ups and downs ...
I agree, it comes in waves. The lessons you have learned does make some impacts so you are not exactly back from where you started your journey. Just have to get back in the saddle and try again... and again... and again

Waves ... ups and downs ...
... back and forth ... circles but longings for spirals ... but sometimes it works, surprisingly, the space of stuck is gone but ... gosh, another wave ... - I find the long steps in life most satisfying because there I'm able to see the jumps ... that I've been able to jump at all - it may be called self-respect if we can appreciate it -  - genio
