Your opening lines practiclaly paints the picture. Brava! It is similar to
a tale from India my parents used to tell us, especially my mom. But both Dad and Mom knew that tale about the grass being only apprarently greener on the other side. That is largely why I fought apartheid (not for East Indians but on behalf of all S.Africans) in those decades before the Bushs changed the rules of public culture, warmaking, "defense" and "constructive engagement and disengagement" both. Sinome
When I come to your blog it's almost as though I prepare myself for a quiet and inspiring read.  Today's message - or at least the message I drew from the piece - that the grass is always greener on the other side is so very true.  Why is it we're rarely content with the life that we have?  Thank you for yet another wonderful read!

Yet, we still wish. So, I buy a lottery ticket here and there. Twenty bucks in winnings will do!

You are so right, Sinome
But the restless human heart cannot but wish for the unattainable, as you yourself probably know well...

I love it .... and isn't this a universal truth ... we want what we can't
or don't have.  The grass always looks greener on the other side .... why do we so rarely sit back and make the best of what we are given ... appreciate what we have?  You're poetry is always a great read.  Hope all is well and that you had a good weekend

Sinome
So beautifully you have touched the lives of ones yearning to be free, and its opposite, of ones yearning to live a warm cosy life. To be free entails its toils, nonetheless, it's of an immensely greater value. Excellent poem. Good Morning , and thanks for your encouraging comments on my blog.

Oh how we never know what the heart wants!  This was a lovely poem with a lot of truth in it about life in general.  Those who have certain things, always want what they don't have, and it is a pity because no one will ever by happy with that kind of logic.  When I first read your poem, I thought the top half looked like a round gilded cage...    Magnificent poem!

A Pretty Poem!
Don't look now, but "guided" should be "gilded."

Somehow I liken 'wishing' to 'hope'-(maybe I'm wrong)-but we have to have
HOPE! To have HOPE-I feel first there must be a wish-(otherwise why would we have hope?) This is a Beautiful poem Sinome! It is also quite thought provoking! Chris.
