You make an excellent point here afzal,
If God is a caring father, then he is there when we need him most to keep us safe and help us through the really rough times, just like our earthly parents if we are lucky enough to have good parents. But for him to have to direct all details of our lives would be to make us weak and we would not learn anything. Just like in our lives with our earthly parents, you must give responsibility to make responsible people. And you must allow your children to make mistakes and be there to pick them up if need be. Excellent post.

But there is so much suffering in the world, by people who don't "deserve"
it, that I cannot accept the notion of a God who cares about us....

yes, the way people approach God seems like he's someone that is bribed
with prayer and constant tormenting for our reliefs

Yes Afzal...my prayer with an Our Father daily I feel takes care of much --- as you I agree, when I'm at crossroads or in deep waters...then I pray for mercy ~ and much. I do pray for many --- as well. I so appreciate your blogs. Such honesty and humility and It blesses me. ~

I agree ... when I see Entertainers accept an honor, and they thank
God for the reward, I have to scratch my head - With all the hunger, child molestation, terrorism, civil liberties violations, and crippling natural disasters in the world - when did God have time help Whitney Houston win a Grammy?

I never pray...
...for material things or for my selfish desires. I do however pray for the needs of others.
And I agree with the saying, "Don't ask God to make your life easier, pray for God to make you stronger." Excellent Post, afzal.

Dearest afzal, I was taught that G-d is there for all of us all the time. If He could only be bothered with the big stuff, if He could only pay attention to those who are in dyer need...then He would not be G-d, He would be government. G-d is omnipotent, which by definition means He can do anything and everything, all at the same time, there are no limitations for G-d. Now that does not mean that we should ask G-d and then sit back and wait for Him to solve our problem. But we can ask G-d anything and expect He would help us solve whatever it is, from world peace to finding a parking space near the mall door during a thunderstorm. That is the G-d they taught me about, a personal loving father that watches over me. :-) and I like Him like that, even if now I believe other more sophisticated truths .Great post! Be well my friend.

I look for God to guide me toward His will and not mine. Along the way He takes care of my needs. I do not live a material existence but seek full understanding of Him. sam

You are a very smart and wise man. It is always good to do our best with something before gathering aid from God.

great post, afzal!
it's as if many think God is a genie in a bottle. Too many miss out on a relationship for which words fail when God is approached in this manner.
