What an interesting post. When I was a child I was fascinated by the colored bricks in the wall that would let beams of light of various colors shine through in the church that I attended. We did not have purple though.. I only remember some blue and yellow and red. Purple would have been so cool. Thank you for telling us about this. ~Peace, OTA

gapcohen, This is such a beautiful post that I had to come read it again. Yes, I read it the other day when you posted it and instead of commenting, went off to look something up and forgot to come back.

Re: I really love reading you....
Thanks, Spitfire - I still go to those Orthodox shuls once in awhile. There's something about them that connects me to past generations in ways that the modern synagogues never will!

God is blue for me - like the endless sky. Your posts are so entertaining and educative at the same time. I love to read them. Thanks for your comment on the fashion models.

I really love reading you....
Just as you explained in this post, reading you brings me back to many of my childhood days. In fact, I remembered going to service with my grandpa and the temple was one that was still "old fashioned" and I had to sit "upstairs" with my mom and grandma! (Of course, I still ran downstairs and sat with my grandpa cause I didn't understand tradition at that time...nor did I or would I even have cared!

Re: Purple is a royal colour
Yes, Norwood - I have read The Color Of Water - by NY Times writer, James McBride. All of the McBride kids are very accomplished - one was the Public Health Director of my city when his brother's book came out - so James spoke here and was very well-received. I loved that book!

Purple is a royal colour
But I think of G-d as a prism of light, beautiful pure energy of light and love. Did you ever read a book called The colour of Water'. I may have gotten the title wrong but it is about this woman who has 12 children. She is Jewish and it is written by one of her sons. It is very interesting and very sad. Her children are very far from Yiddishkeit unfortunately as she was alienated by her father who was not very nice to her crippled mother.
I went through a box of tissues reading that book. I love the month of Elul and the High Holidays. We work much harder at our repentance too I believe.
