Ouch! No wonder you keep the handbrakes operational. I'll bet your house winces whenever it sees a Mitsubishi.

Sira
LOL. They aren't just for hills Sira - they're for doing handbrake turns as well.

I use the emergency brake in both my vehicles every day -- to try to
ensure that they remain in position after I have partked. I've had a couple of wayward vehicles in my time -- and a Mitsubishi in the side of my house, thanks to an emergency brake that did not engage correctly. Sorry about the embarrassment, john, but it makes for a good story...

My car has a handbrake?
Oh, wait...I think I remember something about those, from my driving lessons. Aren't they just for when you're parking on a hill?

vickip
At least you had the foresight to use your handbrake, vickip, which is more than I can say.

TAPS
You'd better check to make sure you have one first TAPS. And then check that it isn't rusted up. I haven't used a handbrake in at least 5 years.

The emergency brake, right? I had to use that years and years ago
when my little Toyota's brakes went out ... it was that and run into the willow tree in our front yard LOL. Of course back then there were all of 4 cars on the road

Johnmacnab, I have no idea when I last used my hand brake or if I ever have. I would not have thought of it either. Maybe now I will if it is needed, just because of your tale.

Hey mneme! Nice to hear from you. Spring in England? Never heard of it. My relative in Devon told me in January that their spring was well advanced, so he should be having Fall about now. As for April showers - I liked the freshness they brought.

You are a funny guy, majroj. I take it you didn't hit anything, as there is no "cruuuunch,' in your sound track.

Hi johnmacnab - I'm glad i'm not the only one.. though i have tended to try to reverse out of the garage in my automatic (and manual too, come to think of it) with the handbrake firmly ON and wondered why the car is being so darned stubborn...
PS I left a little comment for you when i was commenting in muser's blog, who i'm happy to see is back with us and on good form:)

I'd like to have seen that one, majroj. The next time you inadvertently do it, make sure you have a video camera running.

I don't think so, Pat. It's more likely that the car is a bit like me - falling to pieces and rusting in places.

If there was any public transport here, jmh, I'd use it - especially in winter.

LOL. We used to do that when we were teenagers ..well, maybe slightly later in life as well. Ah happy days of illegality and drifting round corners. Of course I wouldn't dream of doing it now, vogue, mainly because I'd forgotten where the daft thing was.

I'm glad this story had a happy ending with no dents or dings.
I'm sure Ell is also happy that her vehicle is intact. Funny, (strange, not ha-ha) how your brakes just went out like that. Have you ticked off a connected guy lately?

Glad you made it home though. I'll tell you a secret: I use the handbreak to make a very quick an illegal U-turn, you know, you hit the accelerator, turn the wheel, apply the handbreak and the car swings around all by its own. DO NOT IMITATE! LOSEN THE HANDBREAK IMMEDIATELY!
