A hot topic indeed Naut!
I live in a part of the world were hanging the laundry out to dry is the norm, we've learned to "read" people's laundry: the composition of the family, their economical status, things like how frequently they wash and how long they leave their laundry out after it dries tells you about the efficiency of the housewife. Some cloth lines are a joy to look at, mine is an eyesore !

I haven't hung clothes on a line for a long, long time.  Come to think of it, I don't want to either.  Too many pooping birds flying around.  You should see the decorated cars.

Yeah, really, Rumored. I mean, when you really think about it, Dalton McGuinty concerning himself with how people dry their bloody laundry??? It's outrageous...

Nautikos
I hang my clothes out at the lake....I love the smell of the sun and fresh air in my towels and sheets.....and in my white cotton panties! (That last is a nod to my old blog....but also true!)  Even my jeans are better line-dried and, like Elyse's friend's.....mine like to dance out there, but my backyard has a fence around it that cuts the wind, so they're usually found just waltzing.....

Troosh, I can see a municipality worrying about such things, they worry about all kinds of trivia, but a Provincial Government? Next, we're gonna have a Federal Department of Laundry...

You can't hang your clothes out to dry in this town either...there's been an ordinance in place for a long time about it...now with the two lesbians living downstairs and not minding the ordnance I can only shake my head...lol...I have missed you~

Hi Nautikos - great fun... I wonder though, do people still have their undies stolen from clothes lines? I once lost a complete change of clothes, from underwear to my favourite skirt (perhaps there was a closet transvestite in the neihgbourhood)
- and thanks, Elyse for reminding me the word I was looking for... living for a while in NC i didn't mind using the dryer, and I was amused one day to see in one of the supermarkets a "Solar Drying System" - looked like a plain old clothes line and pegs to me, but I suppose it sounded better:)

i used to live in Ontario -it is a great great place-so i was kinda shocked  to read this--how silly to have evr banned this!  Of course they came around :)!! great posts--

Naut, so glad ~ I hang clothes for a 'rancher'...he calls it his solar dryer...and when I hang his drawers on the line...we (and he says, sure of it, the other farmers get a) laugh everytime.  It's windy out there on the ranch ~ This 78 year old man talks of days of dancing and he says seeing his drawers move in the wind reminds him his dance(ing) ~ Imagine if that ruling came across here in Texas...that poor rancher and me would have to trek into town to the nearest laundromat --- oh 21 miles up the road? and we'd lose the entertainment value we have  ~ oy ~ I love your blogs Naut ~ write on!!! ~Elyse

I remember s a child running among the white sheets hung in my back yard.  I remember the fresh smell  and the softness of the material as it touched my face.  There is nothing wrong with hanging cloth to dry,  except maybe the work involved, but if you guys are willing to hang them,  hey, I say lets do it :-) Great post!

There is nothing
More serene then seeing ones sheets drying in the days air. Now, under pants I don't know if I would have the same feeling I still let my undies dry in the privacy of my own bathroom

There's a rule in my parents neighbourhood

that says they're not allowed to use clotheslines, or anything even remotely resembling one. They're also restricted to specific styles of fencing for their yards, certain paint colors for the exterior of their house, and a whole list of other foolishness.

It's all meant to keep the area looking tidy and uniform, but I think it's one very small step away from being declared a communist society.

If I want my bloomers blowing in the breeze, I'll hang 'em up--and I'd like to see anyone try and stop me!

I am shocked. The governments around the world find the silliest things to occupy their valuable time. Do you need to borrow clothes pins per chance? sam

Naut
In Victoria where many neighbourhoods remain a little “uppity” it’s still a city bylaw and given the green movement it does seem a little absurd.

They have small clotheslines every where in Spain, even outside appartment buildings, and I am speaking of big 20 storey high buildings here! So, a few ones in Kanata can't be that bad, no?!

I love seeing clothes drying out on a line. My elderly neighbor hangs her clothes out (undies included. My kids (when they were younger) would always comment to me "mom...she's hanging her parachutes out."........made me smile. Glad to see oh Canada is seeing green about this.
