vogue, I know exactly what you mean and posted a similar article on
manners and courtesy some time ago...words like "excuse me" or "Thank you" have gone out the window...
Now, when I hold the door open for someone and they scoot past wordlessly, I simply say so they can hear me "You're welcome!"...

I agree 100%
If you're only being polite in order to get acknowledgement for how wonderful of a person you are; then you're being selfish, not polite. And if you are controled by such a blatant need for approval in every area of your life - Never Ever Ever become a parent. ;)

I know how you feel. The next time you do something polite for someone who doesn't offer the appropriate "thank you" say very loudly "YOUR WELCOME"! It will make you feel better I promise.

Rudeness has no place in politeness..they just do not mingle, however, to show someone their rudeness in this case..I'd say "Oh, excuse me, Sir, Better Check your fly"
or ..Uh, Mam, "Is that toilet tissue on your shoe?" LOL mean ??

the ones that get me you are a few feet behind them and they open the door and you reach the door just as it slams shut on you, the person never bothered to even hold it for you, knowing you are right behind them

You should live it my town. It would be just the opposite. A door is always held for someone and a friendly greeting to go with it. Did you find the info I left for you on Rollo May? sam
